Did your child need a filling at their last dental visit?  While childhood tooth decay is common, there is no need for your child to develop cavities as rotten teeth can be avoided with the right home dental care combined with good professional care.

Are You Cleaning Your Child’s Teeth Correctly?

It can be tricky to clean young children’s teeth and this is where we can help, as our dentists can show you how to clean your child’s teeth thoroughly and with the minimum of fuss. We can also show you how to floss your child’s teeth as you will need to do this for them until age 10 when they develop sufficient dexterity to do it themselves.

Fissure Sealants

Fissure sealants are an excellent way to protect the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. Treatment is very straightforward and consists of your dentist painting a thin layer of a plastic material onto these surfaces. The plastic is thin enough not to interfere with their bite and is virtually invisible. We recommend applying fissure sealants as soon as your child’s adult teeth push through as this treatment can only be used on teeth that are perfectly healthy and which do not have any cavities.

Dietary Advice

Sometimes making a few changes to your child’s diet will greatly reduce their risk of cavities. Our dentists can assess their risks and if required can chat to you on ways to easily reduce it, for example through reducing snacking in between meals or even by just changing the types of snacks eaten.
